Ethical responsibilities of authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to The European Chemistry and Biotechnology Journal are expected to adhere to the highest standards of research integrity, ethical conduct, and responsible scientific publishing. Submission of a manuscript implies that the authors have complied with the ethical principles outlined below.
Originality and Integrity of Research
Authors must ensure that:
- The submitted work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration elsewhere;
- All data, results, and interpretations presented in the manuscript are accurate, honestly obtained, and appropriately reported;
- Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data is strictly prohibited.
Authorship and Contribution
Authors must comply with the journal’s Authorship Criteria and ensure that:
- All individuals listed as authors meet the authorship requirements;
- No qualified contributor is omitted (ghost authorship);
- No individual is listed as an author without a substantial contribution (gift or honorary authorship);
- All authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.
Ethical Approval and Research Involving Humans or Animals
For studies involving human participants, human biological material, or animals, authors must:
- Obtain approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board prior to conducting the research;
- Conduct research in accordance with internationally accepted ethical standards, including the Declaration of Helsinki (for human research) and relevant animal welfare regulations;
- Clearly state ethical approval details (committee name, approval number, and date) in the manuscript.
If ethical approval was not required, authors must explicitly state the reason.
Informed Consent and Privacy
When applicable, authors must confirm that:
- Informed consent was obtained from all human participants;
- Participant confidentiality and privacy were protected;
- Identifiable personal data were not disclosed without explicit consent.
Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure
Authors are required to:
- Disclose all financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation;
- Clearly acknowledge all sources of funding or financial support.
If no conflicts of interest exist, authors should include a statement declaring this.
Data Availability and Transparency
Authors must comply with the journal’s Data Availability Policy and ensure that:
- Data supporting the findings are made available where possible;
- Any restrictions on data sharing are clearly justified;
- Original data can be provided to the editorial office upon reasonable request.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
Authors must follow the journal’s AI & Generative AI Policy and ensure that:
- Any use of AI-assisted tools is transparently disclosed;
- AI tools are not listed as authors;
- Authors retain full responsibility for all content generated or assisted by AI tools.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors must not submit manuscripts describing essentially the same research to more than one journal simultaneously. Redundant or duplicate publication is considered unethical and unacceptable.
Post-Publication Responsibilities
Authors are expected to:
- Promptly notify the editorial office of any significant errors discovered after publication;
- Cooperate fully in the investigation and resolution of ethical concerns, including corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.
