Ethical principles and publication policy
Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
Peer-reviewed studies are studies that support and apply the scientific method. At this point, it is of great importance that all parties involved in the publication process (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, referees and editors) comply with ethical principles. National and international research and publication ethics guidelines are implemented by the European Chemistry and Biotechnology Journal (EUCHEMBIOJ). Processes are carried out in accordance with the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Guidelines for Higher Education Institutions, the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works and the Press Law. The Open Access Journals Guidelines (DOAJ), the Open Access Academic Publishers Association (OASPA), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) meticulously implement the International Ethical Publishing Principles adopted by EUCHEMBIOJ. In addition, EUCHEMBIOJ complies with the Turkish Editors' Workshop Decisions.
Publication Policy
The European Chemistry and Biotechnology Journal (EUCHEMBIOJ), an academic and peer-reviewed journal, is published twice a year, in January and July.
Only original research articles are published in English in EUCHEMBIOJ.
In the article publishing process of EUCHEMBIOJ, which is an academic journal, preliminary review, plagiarism control, double-blind peer review, language control, editing and layout processes are applied.
Every research article sent for publication in EUCHEMBIOJ goes through a double-blind evaluation process by at least two referees.
Nationally and internationally accepted academic standards form the basis of our journal publication policy.
Authors who have completed at least a doctoral level education process can submit research articles to be published in EUCHEMBIOJ. However, doctoral students can also submit research articles to the journal, provided that they are prepared together with their advisors.
Research articles should be submitted at least 2 months before January or July. Otherwise, articles that have not completed their editorial and refereeing processes are postponed to the next issue. However, articles that have completed their editorial processes and have been accepted for publication are published on the journal website in early view.
Articles are evaluated with preliminary review and double-blind referee reviews. The preliminary review process takes approximately five days, and this period is approximately thirty days for articles that have been submitted for referee evaluation. The referee evaluation process may vary depending on the workload of the referees, and sometimes this period may be extended.
Articles sent to our journal must not have been previously published in another journal and must not have been sent to another journal for evaluation at the same time.
Only one study by an author can be published during the year. Studies by the same author are not published in two consecutive issues. The relevant criterion also applies in cases where the author's study is a multi-author study.
Articles sent to our journal will definitely be checked for compliance with the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive of Higher Education Institutions (YÖK) and also with the ethical rules observed by indexes such as Science Citation Index, Scopus and TR-Dizin.
The contributions of researchers included as authors in the article should be detailed.
There is no fee for submitting articles to our journal, no editorial process, and no payment is made to authors.
Declaration on Publication Ethics and Publication Abuse
From the submission of the article to the journal, all stakeholders (authors, editors, referees) must comply with internationally accepted ethical principles in all processes. The policies and published guidelines determined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) must be followed without fail.
Research articles sent to our journal must be original, unpublished elsewhere, and not under evaluation in another journal.
Submitted articles are subject to editorial preliminary review. Articles that are suitable for evaluation in the preliminary review are double-blindly evaluated by at least two external referees. Plagiarism, forgery, distortion, republishing, slicing, unfair authorship, copyright violation, failure to declare conflicts of interest if any, failure to state the contributions of supporting institutions/organizations in studies conducted with support, use of unpublished theses and studies as references without the permission of the owner, failure to comply with ethical rules in research conducted on humans or animals and failure to respect patient rights in publications, acting contrary to the provisions of international legislation in biomedical research and other clinical research on humans, publication of information obtained from surveys and attitude research conducted within the scope of scientific research without obtaining the explicit consent of the participants or, if the research is to be conducted in an institution, without obtaining the approval of the relevant institution are behaviors considered unethical. Articles that do not comply with these ethical standards are immediately rejected if detected during the editorial process. Articles that are determined not to comply with ethical rules after publication are removed from publication.
Research Ethics
EUCHEMBIOJ follows and implements international standards in research ethics. Authors are obliged to comply with these ethical issues in the articles they submit to our journal.
Authors must comply with the values of honesty, quality and principles in the research design, design review and conduct of the research.
Researchers and all participants in the research must be fully informed about the purpose, methods and possible risks of the research.
Permission must be obtained from the institutions or organizations where the research will be conducted, if necessary.
In research conducted with humans, data belonging to the participants must be kept confidential, the dignity of the participants must be respected and it must be ensured that they are not harmed. Participants in the research must be volunteers and written informed consent must be obtained from the participants. In research conducted with humans, it must be written in the materials and methods section that informed consent was obtained from the participants and the institution that made the decision for which the ethics committee approval was obtained and, if any, the decision number must be written in the article. The existence of a conflict of interest must be stated in the article.
Human Subjects and Animal Use in Research, Ethics Committee Approval and Informed Consent
EUCHEMBIOJ implements the WMA Declaration of Helsinki (Ethics in Medical Research Involving Human Subjects), the Basel Declaration (Ethical Principles for Biomedical Research) and the principles set out in the WMA Statement (Animal Use in Biomedical Research). Experimental, clinical and pharmaceutical research must have been carried out in accordance with international standards and must have been approved by the relevant ethics committee, and appropriate research principles and protocols must have been implemented. If necessary, an ethics committee approval document/letter may be requested from the author.
In experimental research conducted with humans, after a detailed explanation of the processes to be applied and monitored, it must be written in the relevant article that the participants have volunteered and have been informed. The information on obtaining consent, ethics committee information (affiliated institution) and the relevant document number for the permission document must be written in the relevant section of the article (Ethics Committee Approval section). The authors are responsible for ensuring that the confidentiality of the participants in clinical research is maintained to the maximum extent possible and kept confidential. Experimental research on vertebrates or regulated invertebrates requires that institutional, national, and/or international guidelines be met, and authors are encouraged to clearly state that they have adhered to these guidelines. For animal studies, an ethics committee must approve research protocols. The ethics committee reviews protocols to ensure that they comply with applicable regulations and guidelines, such as the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (8th ed., 2011), the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS) guidelines, and the International Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Animals (2012). The guidelines provide detailed guidance on how to conduct animal research ethically and humanely and are widely accepted as the standard for such research. Authors should provide a clear description of the ethical treatment of animals in their manuscript, including any precautions taken to prevent suffering and discomfort. This is critical to ensuring that the study was conducted humanely and to confirm that it meets appropriate ethical standards.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is presenting the ideas, methods, data, applications, writings, figures or works of others, in whole or in part, as one's own work, without citing their authors in accordance with scientific rules. All articles sent to our journal undergo a preliminary review to prevent plagiarism. In this preliminary review, similarity scanning is performed using Turnitin & Ithenticate software. Articles with a similarity rate of over 20 percent are not included in the peer review. Authors must show due care and carefully apply the citation and citation rules.
EUCHEMBIOJ attaches importance to the following responsibilities of authors, referees and editors within the scope of publication ethics.
Authors' responsibilities:
All authors included in an article must contribute to the work to the extent that they are included as authors. They must not be included as unjust authors. They must be meticulous in order to prevent any ethical violations. It must be ensured that the information and data in the article are correct and original, and if necessary, they must take the necessary measures to withdraw the article or correct any errors. Care should be taken when citing and it should be ensured that it is error-free. An article should not be sent to different journals simultaneously for publication. The contributions of institutions and organizations that contributed to the study should be stated. The referee opinions regarding the articles that go through the referee evaluation process should not be perceived as personal criticism and the necessary corrections and improvements should be made at the academic level and a response should be given in accordance with the academic style. The articles sent to our journal should be prepared in accordance with the publication rules of our journal. The article writing template that is found to help the authors should be used by the authors.
Referees' Responsibilities:
Articles should be reviewed impartially and without bias during the review by the referees. Articles that are not compatible with the field of expertise should not be reviewed by the referees. Referees are given 14 days for review and additional time is given upon request. The information about the article reviewed by the referees should not be shared with third parties or the information in the article should not be used for their own interests. Referees should not evaluate the article if they have a conflict of interest or relationship with the stakeholders (authors, institutions, and funding organizations) that are the subject of the article. When the article is reviewed by the referee, the evaluations should be related to the scientific content and objective, and personal or relative criticisms should not be included. Although there is no upper limit, the referee evaluations should be at least 150 words and should include the scientific evaluation. Referees should indicate the works that require citation but have not been cited. Referees should have a constructive attitude towards improving the article.
Editors' Responsibilities:
During the editorial processes, articles are evaluated according to scientific criteria and variables such as the nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, ethnicity of the authors are definitely not taken into account.
All decisions and authority regarding the acceptance or rejection of an article for publication belong to the editors. Editors should not have a conflict of interest with any article they handle during the editorial process or with its authors.
Original research articles that contribute to the field they are related to should be accepted in EUCHEMBIOJ. Editors should support the publication of corrections/retractions/concerns in the event that errors or ethical violations are detected in an article.
Editors must keep the names and affiliation information of article authors and referees confidential during editorial processes conducted with double-blind evaluation and prevent any actions that do not comply with publication ethics. The contents of articles sent to our journal and rejected cannot be used by any stakeholders of the journal, but are kept for archival and statistical purposes.
Handling allegations of research misconduct
In cases of allegations of research misconduct and ethical violations, the guidelines set out in COPE’s ethical toolkit for successful editorship are applied. If ethical violations such as plagiarism, citation manipulation, or data fabrication are detected, the necessary measures will be taken to prevent the publication of the article. EUCHEMBIOJ editors will not allow such misconduct to occur under any circumstances. EUCHEMBIOJ editors will follow the processes described in the COPE guidelines when allegations of ethical violations arise.
Ethical violation notifications
Readers can report any scientific errors or inaccuracies or any ethical violations they detect in articles published in our journal by sending an e-mail to editor@euchembioj.com. With the awareness that scientific information must be accurate and reproducible, we value such notifications with great importance as they will contribute to our improvement in the service of science.
Correction, retraction, expression of concern
If minor errors are detected in an article published in our journal that do not affect the findings, conclusions or conclusion of the study, editors may consider publishing a correction regarding the relevant article. However, if major errors are detected that invalidate the results and conclusions of the study, the article may be retracted. An expression of concern regarding an article may be published by editors if there is a finding that an article was misused, the findings are unreliable or that their institution did not examine/investigate the issue sensitively. COPE and ICJME guidelines are applied meticulously regarding such corrections, retractions or publication of concerns.
